Mural brightens DI waiting room

A local mural artist has donated his time and talents to transform Rouge Valley Centenary’s Diagnostic Imaging (DI) waiting room into a work of art for patients and visitors.
Nico Monteleone, who has painted large scale murals for several years, created the mural over the course of two weekends. The scene depicts a tranquil park-like setting, including a waterfall. Monteleone says he wanted to give back to hospitals, and approached Rouge Valley last year about the possibility of painting a mural. The final version adorning the walls in the DI waiting room was chosen from a series of sketches he produced in consultation with staff. The paint used in the mural was generously donated by Claudio Grisolia, owner of Steeles Paint. A full-time teacher, Monteleone teaches fine art and cartoon and movie-making to children. He paints murals in his spare time, and has had his work showcased in Loblaws stores in Ontario and eastern Canada, as well as automotive dealerships and private residences.

A plaque commemorating the mural was unveiled in the DI waiting room on January 18, 2008, at a reception for Monteleone, invited guests and hospital staff and physicians.
