Nico Monteleone

Multimedia Artist

My artistic name is Nico Monteleone. I was born in a small village in the South of Italy called Monteleone di Puglia. In 1998 I immigrated to Canada and began my work as an artist in Toronto. I travelled along the East Coast Provinces and back to Toronto painting vibrant murals for Loblaws stores.

About my style

I studied Fine Art in High School and then graduated from the Academy of Art in Florence, specializing in painting and cinema. I was inspired by the German filmmaker Wim Wenders best known for his films "Wings of desire" and "Paris-texas" that I based my thesis on him. To this day he is still my inspiration in both painting and cinema. Another internationally acclaimed artist that has  inspired my work in most recent years is Gerhard Richter,  simultaneously producing abstract and photorealistic painted works.

Currently my focus has shifted direction, in Italy it is known as “Arte informale”. Action painting sometimes known as "gestural abstraction", is a style of painting in which paint is spontaneously dribbled, splashed or smeared onto the canvas, rather than being carefully applied. The result often emphasizes the physical act of painting itself as an essential aspect of the finished work or concern of its artist.

My last collection is called "MOVIMENTI" I used different mediums to capture the essence of the natural direction, flow and colour of certain objects as they are captured in full motion.
